Information about Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and Saddleback Valley Real Estate
Lake Forestis a smaller city, conveniently located between Irvine and Mission Viejo, right where the I-5 and I-405 merge. There are currently over 26,000 housing units (homes, condos and apartments combined), and the population as of the 2000 census is about 76,000 people. From Lake Forest, you can easily drive to Disneyland, in central Orange County, in about 30 minutes. Or, the John Wayne Airport or the South Coast Plaza Shopping center in less than 30 minutes, the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach in about 15 minutes, or one of the great surfing beaches from Doheny to San Onofre in 20 to 40 minutes.
Mission Viejo is a medium sized city covering over 17 square miles of land. There are currently almost 34,000 housing units and a population estimated to be almost 100,000. It is located just south of Lake Forest along the I-5 freeway. Mission Viejo includes the "Shops at Mission Viejo" shopping mall, recreation on the lake, and is home to Saddleback Community College. The City of Mission Viejo has a website that provides much more detail on all the features and statistics of the area.
Rancho Santa Margarita is a newer city, located between Mission Viejo and the Saddleback Mountains. The land area covers about 13 square miles and the current population is estimated at about 50,000. There are currently about 17,000 housing units in the city. The city of Rancho Santa Margarita offers many parks and shopping areas, as well as offering outstanding homeowner association facilities with pools, sports parks, and a lake.
