The public schools in South Orange County are generally very good, and many have won awards such as "Distinguished Schools" or "Blue Ribbon Schools". You can get reports on the results of the standard tests from any of the district websites. They are all currently on a "traditional" school calendar year in this area, usually beginning in early September and ending in mid-to-late June.
Although most of the listings on the MLS indicate which schools are assigned to a home, you should verify that information, in case it has changed. The sellers may have told the listing agent where their children attended, but over the years, it is possible that the home has been assigned to a different school. Go to the link at the bottom of this page to look up the assigned schools by street address.
If the preferred school is not over-crowded, it is sometimes possible to request an "inter-district" transfer. The request will be evaluated by the district and a decision will be made. Valid reasons for attending a different school than the one assigned to your home might be that the requested school offers some special program that your assigned school does not. Other reasons could be that the requested school is closer to the parent's work location, or that the after-school caretaker is closer to that school.
